International Women Riders Congress and FestivalAugust 11 - 15, 2010 - Deerhurst Resort, Huntsville Ontario CanadaSeminar: Psychology of the roadSponsored by Learning Curves
"Be wary then; best safety lies in fear." The safest road for motorcyclists is a hazardous road! ... an illustration of Sue's Rule, that an obvious danger establishes our best defensive riding attitude. So should we welcome fewer distractions at the controls? And safer road and vehicle technology? We compare the impact of the seatbelt and helmet requirements, our experiments with uncontrolled intersections, and the psychology of our looking for parking spaces and the fastest lane of traffic. We are not good at calculating risks at the best of times. Motorcyclists are also reputed to be high-risk tolerant. There's something about a motorcycle that allows for relatively risky behaviour. These factors make for a potent cocktail of dangers... and maybe that's just what we need for our safety. Biography: Ginny Allen
Ginny Allen is a motorcycle gal through and through. Beginning her career as an avid rider 15 years ago, her raw talent and passion for the sport earned her recognition early on as a rising star in the instructor ranks. Through her full time duties as a Senior Instructor, M2 Exit Instructor, Instructor Trainer and MTO Demonstration Rider, she has made a lasting impact and continues to garner widespread attention in the riding community throughout the GTA and Southern Ontario.
