International Women Riders Congress and FestivalAugust 11 - 15, 2010 - Deerhurst Resort, Huntsville Ontario CanadaRound Table DiscussionSponsored by PowerLily
The Road to ChangeLearning to ride a motorcycle requires many women to overcome personal challenges, maybe even things we've never faced before. Often, the higher you aim, the more you risk. Overcoming these obstacles not only makes us stronger, but also gives us skills and confidence we can apply to other parts of our lives. So, how can we use those skills to achieve other goals? How do we decide when a risk is worth it, and find the courage to face it? And how might we share our experiences to help others? Let's round out the conference by talking about how to carry forward learnings from the IWCF, to drive positive change in ourselves and our communities. PowerLily:PowerLily is a peer-to-peer network for women in powersports, founded in 2009 as friends and colleagues were losing their jobs. Its initial goal was to connect the many women in the industry, creating a broad base of support in hard times. Over the last year, the network has grown to include amazing women of diverse backgrounds and experience, and its members have supported each other with employment, connections, insight, promotion and other help. As the interactions among the Powerlily network evolved, so did its mission: To foster professional growth and personal empowerment among women in powersports by sharing resources and opportunities.Powerlily is open, free of charge, to all women who are interested in powersports, whether they work in the industry or not. Communications include job openings, events, business ventures, freelance work, fundraising and product development. There is an email newsletter, a LinkedIn group and a Facebook page, where members can participate in discussions or simply find news of interest. Powerlily was created and is administered by Jessica Prokup, who works in the motorcycle industry and lives in Southern California. To learn more about getting involved, visit www.powerlily.net. In 2008 she created RockMoto, a website aiming to turn Gen Y'ers onto motorcycling. RockMoto combines the emotional power of motorcycling and music, featuring interviews with rock stars, Pandora radio stations, and moto info for new riders. Before joining MIC, Jessica served as Editor of RoadBike, a national motorcycle magazine, for over three years. Prior to that, she was assistant editor at RoadBike and American Iron Magazine.
