International Women Riders Congress and FestivalAugust 11 - 15, 2010 - Deerhurst Resort, Huntsville Ontario CanadaSeminar: Motorcycle Technology and Your SafetySponsored by HondaThe human element may be the most important factor in motorcycle operation and safety, but as we know, often the human is the weakest link. Training, practice and experience are all essential contributors to a rider's confidence and overall safety, but the right technology (and even design theory) can further assist the rider and improve their motorcycling experience. Over the years, Honda has learned a thing or two about motorcycles and their riders and has spent countless time and money researching and developing new technology and features to help give their customers the best, and safest experience possible. Come to understand some of Honda's latest motorcycle safety technology. Learn how the latest, advanced braking systems can help you out of a tough situation on the road, or better yet, how Honda's newest motorcycle simulator can help you avoid that tough situation altogether. Biography: Nick Smirniw
Nick's fascination with motorcycles started as a young boy after receiving his first motorcycle toy as a birthday gift (It was some sort of Evel Knievel stunt set -- much to his mother's chagrin. It broke before the party was over -- much to his mother's delight). Undeterred by the tragedy of poor metallurgy the fascination remained, and as age 16 approached he realized that the only way to get a real motorcycle was to show Mom that these things can be safe if you're smart and responsible. It worked. And so began the path that has taken him to the position of Safety and Environment Coordinator, and now Product Planning Coordinator in the Motorcycle Division at Honda Canada Inc. Nick's past couple of decades has been filled with fun and bikes. There have been many miles ridden, both on-road and off, and many years spent teaching motorcycle safety, both in Canada and the US. He's even a Chief Instructor in Honda's Japanese training program. Nick is always ready to share or hear a motorcycle story and never hesitates to encourage new riders to overcome whatever challenges they have in order to get as much out of two wheels as he has.
